About Kollmorgen
Kollmorgen, established in 1916 and headquartered in Radford, Virginia, is a renowned provider of motion control products and solutions. The name “Kollmorgen” originates from its founder, Dr. Friedrich Kollmorgen.
The company specializes in high-performance motors, drives, linear actuators, and automation control systems, serving industries such as aerospace, defense, medical devices, robotics, and industrial automation.
In 1965, Kollmorgen was acquired by Danaher Corporation, which helped expand its technological capabilities and market reach. Under Danaher, Kollmorgen developed notable innovations, including direct drive motor technology, known for its superior precision and efficiency. Their AKM series of servo motors and AKD series of servo drives became popular for their robustness and high performance.
In 2012, Danaher sold Kollmorgen to L-3 Communications (now L3Harris Technologies), further enhancing its role in advanced technology and defence applications.
